Instrumental to
the development of practical philosophy is an examination of Advaita
(the philosophy of unity) and its influence on Western ideas. This philosophy
contrasts an inner being which does not change with our experience of
constant change and the duality of everyday experience. With the aid
of acute attention and a clear observation of this phenomenon the opportunity
exists to free ourselves from these shifting states of the mind.
In
the process we are able to recognise the components of mind, their functions
and the value of detachment. The power of this observation transforms
the common state of separation leading to the discovery of a unity within
and outside one’s self. The realisation of this unity in daily
life is the basis of clear thought and effective action. This is philosophy
in practice - wisdom in action.
