Sydney Sanskrit 2010

This year marked the 20th Anniversary of Annual Sanskrit Weeks in Australiasia. Most of these weeks have been held at the School’s premises, ‘Maharatta’, in Warongah, Sydney with the exception of 2009 which was held in Auckland, New Zealand. Photo Gallery

Over the past 20 years students from Australia and New Zealand have come together for the study of Sanskrit. The study has usually been taken from texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and Hymns of Sankara and is in the form of 2 or 3 verses which are analysed through dictionary study and reflection over the week.

This year the week was held from January 9 to January 16 and Friday January 15 was put aside to celebrate the 20th Anniversary through a day of Lectures from students of Sanskrit, their Tutors and specially invited guests from Australian National University and Sydney University’s Sanskrit Faculties, on subjects dear to the hearts of the presenters.

Talks were also given by the visiting tutors from the UK and Ireland who had come for the week.

This gallery is of pictures taken during the week and also from the last day’s series of lectures and the evening celebration concert.

Special thanks to all our visitors and international tutors.
