Cultural Day 2009 Report
Sunday November 22, 2009
The 2009 Cultural Day was a great success and all who attended enjoyed a wonderful day cultivating our humanity. Read what some people had to say. or view some photos from the day in the Photo Gallery.
Our guest speakers were delighted to have attended and they too enjoyed the company and the opportunity to present their topics to such a receptive and appreciative audience.
The day was opened by Phillip Kruger who set the direction for the day as one in Cultivating our Humanity. We were then treated to a musical delight presented by Katherine and Brian Kruger. Both Brian and Katherine are accomplished musicians and perform regularly at events and venues around Perth. You can visit Katherine’s website for more information or to book her group Fuego Duo for your up-coming function.
Several people commented that the variety of topics made choosing which workshops to attend very difficult.
So for those of you who would have liked to attend more of the lectures/workshops on offer, several of the Cultural Day topics will be offered in the Summer Lecture Series to be held on Thursday evenings in January from 7pm at the School premises 102 Beaufort Street, Perth.
Topics included at this year’s Cultural Day were “Mindfulness” and “Dialectic Rules” presented by Dr Craig Hassed from Monash University in Melbourne, which was very well received with over 70 people in attendance at the ‘Mindfulness’ talk. Dr Hassed recently gave an interview to Nova Magazine on “Being Here and Now”.
“Prayer, Meditation & Stillness” and “What is Truth” were presented by Dr Gary Grohmann from Australian National University in Canberra. Gary is a scientist and virologist with a keen interest in language, music and meditation.
“The Undiscovered Country” was presented by Dr Margaret Smith well know for her work in the area of women’s health and co author of the book “Is It Me Or Is It My Hormones”. Margaret will be presenting this talk again at the Summer Lecture Series in January.
Dr Clive Lamond, a veterinary surgeon, and keen scientist presented two talks, “The Anthropic Universe” and “Science and Philosophy”, “Science and Philosophy” is on the menu again at the Summer Lecture Series in January. Dr Lamond is also presenting his very popular talk on “The Anatomy of Anger” in January as well.
A big thank you to all the other presenters on the day for their passion, love and willingness to share with others.
